'Kaleidoscopic palette of tones, moods and styles'

Taos poet, playwright and author, John Biscello reads from his very special collection of poems, "Moonglow on Mercy Street," this Sunday (Jan. 17) from 4 to 5:30 p.m., at the virtual SOMOS Salon & Bookshop, 108 Civic Plaza Drive, Taos, NM. He describes these 50 poems, most of them written in 2020, as a "kaleidoscopic palette of tones, moods and styles, in crafting living mythology from the world at large and within." Even more enticing, he calls them, "Metamorphic bop, scat-alchemy, bare bones blues and gospel, love songs and odes, pagan pop and cinematic remixes ... a free-range concert aimed at the imagination and the senses. And, as a lyrical pilgrimage fueled by hope and wonder, it stands as a shining testament to Henry Miller's claim that, 'One's destination is never a place, but a new way of seeing things.' Definitely not to be missed. Price $10-$12. Virtual Event URL: somostaos.org Contact Jan Smith somos@somostaos.org or (575) 758-0081.

'Acasa, My Home'

The new documentary at TCA BigScreen@Home is "Acasa, My Home." According to the listing, the Enache family has to adjust after having lived in harmony with nature for 20 years, in the wilderness of the Bucharest Delta, an abandoned water reservoir just outside the bustling metropolis. "They slept in a hut on the lakeshore, caught fish barehanded, and followed the rhythm of the season," the description continues. "When the Delta's transformation into a public national park forces the family to leave behind their unconventional life and move to the city, they struggle to conform to modern civilization and maintain their connection to each other and themselves. With their roots in the wilderness, the nine children and their parents look for a way to keep their family united in the concrete jungle." Price is $12.
