The Taos Writers Conference, sponsored by Taos’ literary organization SOMOS, is not only one of the most affordable writing conferences in the country but according to The Writer magazine, it is also one of the best in the Southwest.

The sixth annual conference will take place in person and virtually via Zoom Friday, July 29 through Sunday, July 31, and will showcase an impressive line-up of faculty and diverse topics. When the Summer Writers Conference sponsored by UNM ended, Jan Smith, Executive Director of SOMOS, saw an opportunity to offer an annual writers conference. “Given the literary history and tradition in Taos, I wanted to offer an annual writers conference,” she explained. “I've added new faculty members who haven't taught at the conference before and have successful careers as both writers and instructors.”
