Stray Hearts Animal Shelter in Taos has received a $6,000 grant from the Petco Foundation to help cover the expenses of preparing animals for adoption.

"The board and staff at Stray Hearts are extremely grateful for this support during these trying times," said Donna Karr, Stray Hearts board president and acting executive director of the shelter. "These funds will save lives of the animals in our care by helping get them adopted."

The funds help dogs such as Sangria, "who arrived at Stray Hearts in a semiferal state, received extensive socialization by trained staff and volunteers, neutering and vaccinations, and is now ready for a new home and a new life thanks to the Petco Foundation grant investment," according to a statement from Karr.
