Youth Pitch, Hit and Run competition at hit

At least 17 young athletes participated in the Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit and Run Competition held at Kit Carson Park in Taos on Saturday (April 27). Pitch, Hit and Run is a skills competition that gives young athletes an opportunity to demonstrate their skills on the basis of individual performances.

The winners in each age and category will go on to compete in the Sectional Competition, held on Saturday (May 18) in Albuquerque at the Comanche South Park.

Here are the results from Saturday's competition.

Baseball

Nevaeh Garcia of Picuris Pueblo was champion in the pitch, run and all-around categories for competitors ages 7-8.

Sebastion Vigil of Taos was champion in the pitch, hit and all-around categories for competitors ages 9-10, while Dominic Arguello of Taos was the run champion.

Anthony Tafoya of Río Rancho was run champion and all-around champion and tied with Maruicio Adame of Taos for the title of pitch champion for competitors ages 11-12. Dylan Smith of Taos was the hit champion.

Adam Archuleta of Peñasco swept the pitch, hit, run and all-around champion spots for ages 13-14.

Softball

In the 11-12 year age group, Lillijean Chacon of Taos won the champion spot in the pitch, run and all-around categories.

For the 13-14 year age group, Penny Espinosa of Taos swept the pitch, hit, run and all-around championships.
