Opinion: Women losing personal rights

Brood mares! American women will soon have no more personal rights than female horses on breeding farms. And they will receive, on average, far less medical care during pregnancy and after birth than the pampered creatures that pop out babies worth thousands of dollars for their owners.

Soon, any American woman who becomes pregnant will become a slave to her state. Her body will not be her own. And she will suffer criminal penalties up to and including - if some demented lawmakers have their way - the death penalty for daring to take control of her reproductive destiny.

And any woman who manages to secure an abortion illegally faces a possible death penalty from a procedure performed in a back alley with no follow-up medical care, for fear of incurring criminal charges. Add that to the worst maternal death rate of any developed country and you have smug, self-righteous legislators playing Russian roulette with American females' lives.

How dare they? Who do they think they are, inserting their personal beliefs into our Constitution, our laws and our bodies? And is it really religion or just, in the case of men - principle agitators for outlawing abortion - unable to deal with women no longer required to pretend those little creatures are their superiors.

Any man who seeks to make laws that allow the rights of a tiny blob of goo to usurp those of an adult American woman should be castrated. Maybe that will turn him into a rational human being.
