Wildfire burning off of State Road 518

A lightning-sparked fire is burning on the Camino Real Ranger District of the Carson National Forest between the Amole Group Shelter and Forest Road 442. Dubbed the Amole fire, it was reported Sept. 2 and is approximately 5-7 acres,  burning in ponderosa pine and mixed conifer, according to a noon update from the Forest Service.

The fire a light surface one that is creeping and smoldering. Firefighters are on scene working to build fire lines.

Smoke and flames will be visible from State Road 518 and may impact driving conditions on the road. Smoke may also be visible from Peñasco and the Taos area. Smoke may drift and settle into Taos, especially in the evenings.

 Smoke-sensitive individuals and people with heart or respiratory problems are encouraged to take precautionary measures.
