Wanted Costilla resident arrested – guns, drugs recovered

Taos County Sheriff's deputies arrested a Costilla resident, Robert Lonnie Lovato, on Thursday (July 20) while executing a search warrant at the suspect's residence.

Lovato had been wanted for allegedly possessing a stolen vehicle that was recovered earlier this month. A warrant was obtained for Lovato's arrest, but once inside the residence, deputies allegedly discovered 182 grams of "high quality" crystal methamphetamine, approximately 3 pounds of marijuana and three firearms.

Lovato was immediately placed under arrest.

The suspect's girlfriend and three children were also at the residence during the search. Some of the drugs, deputies say, were discovered in the children's bedroom. The drugs were allegedly packaged in a manner indicating an intent to sell.

Deputies say Lovato is a convicted felon, who had been under the supervision of the Taos Adult Probation Office. The suspect now faces new felony charges in connection with last week's arrest.
