About 50 people came to the Kit Carson Electric Cooperative boardroom Thursday night (Feb. 6) to hear candidates for the town of Taos Council discuss issues affecting the Taos community.

Councilors Darien Fernandez and Nathaniel Evans are being challenged by artist Roger Martinez and town planning and zoning commissioner Billy Romero for the positions.

Martinez was unable to attend the forum due to a previous engagement, but provided a statement that was read by Taos News editor Staci Matlock., who moderated the event.

Candidates were asked about their positions on various issues and did not know the questions prior to the event. They also answered questions submitted by the audience.

Early voting began Feb. 4, and will continue until Feb. 29. Election Day is Tuesday, March 3.
