Taos News reporter Jesse Moya was on the scene at the Arithmetic hip-hop show at the Mothership last Friday (Jan. 31).He caught the vibe and the beats through his lens.
Friday night (Jan. 31) proved that hip-hop is still strong and going on in the underground.
Taos Mesa Brewing’s Mothership was the site of a party Taos rarely sees in recent times on Friday, a night full of crafty wordsmiths, groovy beats and hip-hop culture.
Local emcee and beat maker Neight Larcen hosted the traveling Arithmetic hip-hop show with Harvey Listen, Izzy Strange and Impress. The traveling emcees brought a fresh blend of hip-hop to Taos combined with Larcen’s local talent for a night reminiscent of the early days of the genre.
Larcen began the evening with a short instrumental showcase followed by a few of his own songs, which blended humor with his own seriousness as a wordsmith. Larcen commanded immediate attention from the crowd with his craft and easily transitioned the night for the traveling acts.
Impress and Harvey Listen were quick to follow, bringing in styles from California and Las Vegas, Nevada, respectively. Izzy Strange closed out the night, which marked the end of the Arithmetic tour.
