Historic Taos Trolley Tours

(505) 550-5612

Wonder why so many doors and windows are painted in “Taos blue?” Interested in knowing how the Penitentes came to be in Taos? These and many other questions will be answered on a fully narrated trolley tour. What locals refer to as simply, “The Trolley,” (celebrating its 30th anniversary) this enlightening excursion offers two tours: Taos Pueblo Excursion or the History and Culture Tour to ride around the winding, scenic streets of Taos, including the Plaza, La Hacienda de los Martinez, Millicent Rogers Museum and the famous San Francisco de Asís Church.

The Pueblo Excursion narration begins at the Plaza, passes more notable places along the way and makes the short trip to the Pueblo — a UNESCO World Heritage Site — for an hour-long visit. Ticket price includes Pueblo entrance fee. This tour also makes a stop at the Hacienda de Los Martinez (but the tour does not go inside).

The History and Culture Tour is basically the same as the Pueblo Excursion, except instead of stopping at the Pueblo, it goes to Millicent Rogers Museum instead. Ticket price includes entrance fee to the museum.

The Pueblo and History and Culture tours run twice daily from May through October. There are two boarding locations: the Taos Visitor Center on Paseo del Pueblo Sur at 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m., and at Atira’s on Taos Plaza at 10:45 a.m. and 2:15 p.m.

Tickets may be purchased at the Visitor Center, on the Plaza at Atira’s, from the tour guide or online at

Taos Pueblo Tours

Without giving too much away, tour guides (who are typically students) tell you the rich, colorful and sometimes tragic history from a perspective that can’t be found in a textbook or in a brochure. Taos Pueblo is a UNESCO World Heritage site and registered National Historic Landmark.

Tours start at 9 a.m. daily and run every 20 minutes. There is no charge for a tour, but gratuities are appreciated.
