Tis’ the season and the town of Taos is ready to welcome in the holidays with the annual Yuletide tree lighting.

The 33rd annual tree lighting kicks off at 4 p.m. Friday (Dec. 6) at Taos Plaza with plenty of celebration for the young and young at heart.

Free cookies and hot chocolate will be provided as well as goodie bags for children who stop in to visit Santa.

In addition, various events and music will be ongoing throughout the evening including dancing as well as music from Taos High School and Middle School Choirs.

Floats will line the plaza around 5:30 p.m. as the annual electric light parade kicks off from the Guadalupe Gym and around 6 p.m., Mayor Dan Barrone will initiate the countdown for the lighting of the town’s Christmas tree provided by the Mayor and his family.

Taos Plaza will be closed to vehicle traffic during the holiday event, but the shops will be open for foot traffic.
