Tigers wrestlers take first in Leonard Kirby Invitational

The Taos Tigers wrestlers won first place at the Leonard Kirby Invitational in Belen. To win the dual tournament, Taos had to go head to head with five other teams. They defeated the Belen JV team 61-18, Valencia 55-21, Kirkland Central 45-36, Belen 39-34 and Cleveland JV 51-30.

The tightest contest was with the hosts, Belen, and a key element of the Taos victory was a pin by Dominic Sillas in the 120-pound division. While trailing by 2 points and suffering from an pain due to an injury in a previous match, Sillas demonstrated heart and determination to get the pin and help his team to first place.

The Taos Tiger wrestling team competes in district duals on Saturday (Feb. 9) in Pojoaque. Matches begin at 9 a.m.
