Things to watch in 2019: Questa schools turmoil

Posted

Another year, another superintendent for the Questa Independent Schools District. Board chair Daryl Ortega delivered the decision to terminate the contract of Superintendent LeAnne Salazar during a special meeting Monday (Jan. 7) in the Questa Schools Board room. The board voted 4-1 to relieve Salazar from her position after six months on the job. She was the third full-time superintendent at the northern Taos County district in two years.

The district’s difficulties in the past year include Questa Junior High School’s receiving its fifth consecutive F grade from the state, a decision to kill the football program and struggles to shore up finances. This year, Questa will be looking for someone to move the district forward and improve academics all around.
