Opinion: The end of humanity?

Most of us know that we are facing a crisis in terms of global warming.

As we pump more and more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, it traps greenhouse gases which cause the Earth's temperature to increase. And, it only takes relatively few degrees increase in the atmosphere before human life on the planet will be unsustainable. It will just be too hot. Regrettably, our government and many others around the world are doing relatively little about this looming disaster.

And, as a species, we are rapidly destroying our main source of oxygen which we know is absolutely vital for human life. The major source of oxygen comes from trees and other vegetation. But, humans are cutting down trees all over the world from the jungles of Brazil to the northwest forests of the United States. We are literally in the process of suffocating ourselves. If this tree-cutting process is not stopped relatively soon, we will be out of life-giving amounts of oxygen and we will all die.

One of the major reasons for this is that humans are highly visual creatures. As we say, "Seeing is believing" and "out-of-sight, out of mind." It is unfortunate that all the carbon dioxide we are pumping into the atmosphere isn't turning the sky orange. Then we could see the effects of increased carbon dioxide and we would take action. But, we must act now regardless of what we can see.
