A wealth of online cultural resources

The New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs strives to keep New Mexicans connected with state museums, historic sites and cultural institutions while they are temporarily closed due to public health concerns related to COVID-19. To find all kinds of links to the enormous cultural integrity and diversity of our state, from museums of farm and ranch heritage to natural history to Native arts to the state library, visit newmexicoculture.org/release/1131/experience-new-mexic. For more information, call Cisco Tapia at (505) 795-1908.

Dispatches from Taos Center for the Arts

In addition to the “Self-Portraits in Isolation” show ongoing through April 30 on the Taos Center for the Arts website (TCAtaos.org/visual-arts/), in lieu of live performances the TCA is developing and distributing via social media both audio and video “Dispatches” that engage with individuals from the community and focus on aspects of the TCA, and that also feature performances as well as readings and interviews. Audio dispatches are also recorded and played on KNCE 93.5 FM and can be accessed at: soundcloud.com/you/library. Video dispatches are available at TCA’s YouTube channel: youtube.com/channel/UCcq1Qp3kKyzR4X1lw5LBP7g?view_as=subscriber. TCA is inviting members of the community to reach out if they’d like to participate.

Earthship webinars

Earthships are totally self-sufficient houses, using upcycled urban waste as the main component. Michael Reynolds, founder of Earthship Biotecture, of Taos, is a proponent of “radically sustainable living” and advocate of the reuse of unconventional building materials from waste streams, such as automobile tires. Check out the series of webinars about this singular construction at earthshipbiotecture.com – registration is $10. Upcoming talks: Thursday (April 2) at 1 p.m. is “History and Inspiration”; Monday (April 6) at 11 a.m. is “Spanish Earthship Q&A.” Both webinars are led by Reynolds.
