Tax free weekend helps NM families

Computers, computer accessories, clothes and school supplies are just a few of the items families can purchase tax-free in New Mexico today through Sunday.   The list of items people can buy without paying gross receipts taxes this weekend is extensive ranging from athletic shoes to wetsuits and in-line skates to long johns.

The annual tax-free weekend "aims to help families save money and prepare their students for the upcoming school year," said a statement from Gov. Susana Martinez's office.

“Preparing to go back to school is expensive for families across New Mexico,” Martinez said in the statement to media. “Tax-free weekend is a great way for us to help families save their hard-earned money, as they equip their children for a successful school year.”

Through the weekend, no gross receipts tax will be charged on a select list of items.

Non-taxable items include:

  • Clothing and footwear $100 or less
  • School supplies such as pens, paper, and other classroom necessities $30 or less
