The agony and the ecstasy of athletics were on full display at the New Mexico state wrestling championship Feb. 22-23.
The state championship meet, held Feb. 22-23 at the Santa Ana Star Center in Rio Rancho, offered the Taos Tiger wrestling team the full spectrum of sports experience, from the glory of a championship win to the pain of unexpected loss and injury.
Estevan Valerio claimed a gold medal Saturday in the 182-pound divison and Dominic "Red" Lopez brought home the silver in the heavyweight division. Five other Taos wrestlers placed in the top six.
For place and match details, see this week's paper, coming out Thursday (Feb. 28).
