Large number of early ballots could delay results

Taos County voters make their way to the polls as the 2020 primary election rolls on.

Over 7,000 voters in the county cast their ballot before noon on Tuesday (June 2) either in person or by mail in ballot.  By 4 p.m. the number was at more than 8,000 absentee, early and in person votes, according to the Secretary of State's office.

A total of 6,000 absentee ballots had been collected by the clerk’s office so far, with only a few hours left before the polls close at 7 p.m.

New Mexico is one of the final states in the U.S. to hold primary elections for the 2020 race.

Democratic voters and candidates make up the majority of the numbers in Taos County and many of the races will be decided by Tuesday’s election results.
