Taos area closures and delays, Tuesday, Feb. 4

Updated 7:26 p.m. Taos Municipal Schools have announced a two-hour delay for Wednesday, Feb. 5, due to weather.

Updated 2:55 p.m. Town of Taos offices will be closing early at 3 p.m. Tuesday (Feb. 4) due to weather conditions. In addition, town offices will be on a two-hour delay for Wednesday (Feb. 5).

Updated 1:26 p.m. The Taos School Board meeting has been canceled due to the weather. It has been rescheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 18,  6 p.m. at Taos Middle School.

Updated 11:20  a.m. UNM-Taos will close at 11:30 a.m.

Updated 10:26 a.m.   Taos Municipal Schools will dismiss students early Tuesday (Feb. 4) due to continued snowfall and road conditions. Secondary schools will dismiss 12:30   and all elementary schools will dismiss at 1:15 p.m.

Taos magistrate and district courts are closed as are Taos International School and Taos Integrated School of the Arts.  Questa Independent Schools, Eagle Nest and Moreno Valley schools also are closed today. 

Updated 5:40 a.m.  Taos Municipal Schools are on a two-hour delay Tuesday (Feb. 4) after a  storm blanketed the region with snow overnight.  Taos International School, University of New Mexico-Taos, Questa schools and Moreno Valley High School also are on a two-hour delay. Taos Academy Charter and Eagle Nest Schools also are on a two-hour delay.

Temperatures are expected to stay below freezing for much of northern New Mexico and plummet Tuesday night, according to meteorologists with the National Weather Service in Albuquerque. Taos and areas north could see temperatures as low as minus 2 to minus 5 degrees. Leave water dripping and cover exposed pipes to prevent freezing.

The combination of snow and freezing temperatures will make for hazardous driving conditions. A winter weather advisory is in effect until 8 p.m. tonight.
