Several school systems in Taos County have announced delays for Wednesday (Feb. 5) due to weather.
Taos Muncipal Schools and Taos Charter School have announced a two - hour delay.
Taos International School, Taos Academy Charter and Peñasco Independent School District are also on a two-hour delay.
University of New Mexico-Taos is on a two-hour delay, with the campus opening at 10 a.m. Classes that meet from 9 to 10: 15 a.m. will be canceled; classes that meet from 9 to 11:30 a.m. will meet from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
Red River Valley Charter School also is on a two-hour delay.
Temperatures are expected to stay below freezing for much of northern New Mexico and plummet Tuesday night (Feb. 4), according to meteorologists with the National Weather Service in Albuquerque. Taos and areas north could see temperatures as low as minus 2 to minus 5 degrees. Leave water dripping and cover exposed pipes to prevent freezing.
The combination of snow and freezing temperatures will make for hazardous driving conditions. A winter weather advisory is in effect until 8 p.m. tonight.
