The Taos News won first place in almost every category, including general excellence, at the annual New Mexico Press Association awards ceremony held Saturday (Nov. 11) at the Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort.
Staff also garnered firsts in class one weeklies for public service, overall news coverage, investigative reporting, website design and environmental reporting.
Tempo editor Rick Romancito won firsts for feature photo and review, plus a second place in obituary for his piece on artist George Chacon.
Karin Eberhardt won firsts for best rate card, real estate advertisement and retail advertisement. Shane Atkinson took first for auto advertisment among the class one weeklies.
Cartoonist Bill Baron swept the cartoonist category, taking first and second among newspapers of all sizes, both weeklies and dailies.
