The Taos Lady Tiger softball team graduated quite a few seniors last year, and is moving into the 2019 season with "an eager, exciting team," says head coach Ramon Abreu.
The girls "worked hard during the offseason," attending open hit sessions during the summer, and coach Abreu is looking forward to seeing the fruits of "all the practice and all the hard work."
They're "a good group of young women trying to improve not only on the field, but also in school and the community," Abreu said, and he hopes to "make some noise in the district" this year. There are some great teams in the district, coach Abreu says, and "we are green," with two juniors and an all-freshman pitching staff.
Still, the team grows as a family. "I've had two great groups before," said Abreu, who was happy to share "how proud I am of my girls."
With no middle school softball program, the team is building a place for itself and "the softball community [in Taos] is still growing." That community is looking forward to meeting the new faces of Española, Los Alamos, Pojoaque Valley and Moriarty in the district, and coach Abreu is "excited to see" what his girls do this season.
