Jonathon Cordova, a 2014 Taos High School graduate, has won a Goldwater scholarship for outstanding academic achievement. Cordova is currently a junior at the University of New Mexico studying biochemistry and math. He plans to conduct cutting-edge biomedical research in the field of cancer genomics after obtaining a Ph.D. from a clinical translational biomedical science program.
The scholarship program honors Sen. Barry Goldwater and was designed to foster and encourage outstanding students to pursue careers in the fields of mathematics, the natural sciences and engineering.
Cordova is the son of Francisco and Amy Cordova and the brother of Antonio Cordova, who is currently attending his first year in medical school at UNM. His grandparents are Franklin and Bertha Lovato and Francis and Ernestina Cordova.
