On Thursday (Nov. 22), the 33rd annual Thanksgiving Pow-Wow will be held at the Taos Pueblo Community Center at 220 Rotten Tree Road, off Veteran's Highway.
The event runs from 7 to 11 p.m. Admission is $2 for adults and $1 for ages 11-17. All proceeds benefit Taos Day School.
This is billed as a family-fun event, free of drugs and alcohol. Food and soft drinks will be available for sale.
The specials include a Hand Drum Contest, Spectator Dance, and "Non- (Pow-Wow) Singing Contest."
A raffle includes the grand prizes of Taos Ski Valley lift tickets (including rentals) and buffalo donated by Taos Pueblo War Chief's Office. There will also be a 50-50 raffle for a cash prize.
From Taos Pueblo, the master of ceremonies is Pat Romero; arena director is Jerome Marcus; head lady is Evelyn Martinez; head boy is AJ Sandoval; head girl is Haleigh Concha; and head drum is Kel Rainer.
Derwin Velarde from Jicarilla Apache is the head man.
The sponsors for this year's event are Taos Pueblo, Taos Mountain Casino, Smith's Food & Drug, Cid's Food Market, and Taos Ski Valley.
