A Ranchos de Taos teenager arrested April 8 has confessed to his involvement in three burglaries and one report of criminal damage to property in the area of Witt Road and Piedmont Road in Taos, according to Taos County Sheriff Jerry Hogrefe.
Hogrefe said in a Monday (April 15) press release that Sgt. Gilbert Atencio obtained an arrested warrant on April 8 for 18-year-old Isaiah Hamilton, who was arrested by a deputy later that day in the parking lot of Albertons.
During an interview with Detective Marvin Armijo, Hamilton allegedly confessed to the four cases he was suspected in. He was charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor, criminal damage to property, interference with communications and trespassing.
After one of the burglaries was reported earlier this month, Hogrefe said deputies detained and interviewed two males: Hamilton and an unidentified 15-year-old.
The deputy photographed both suspects, Hogrefe said, and noted a "distinctive backpack" one of them was wearing.
Investigators now believe Hamilton and the younger suspect to be two individuals caught on surveillance footage during one of the burglaries in the southeast corner of Taos.
Reviewing the footage, investigators say they could make out the same backpack before one of the young burglars destroyed the camera with a BB gun and allegedly cut an internet line at the residence.
Hogrefe did not specify whether the younger suspect would also face charges for his alleged involvement in the crimes.
