Taos County man dies in suspected homicide

Sheriff's office looks at person of interest

Posted

Javier Munoz, a 33-year-old Taos County man, was found on Sugar Lane Saturday (Oct. 20) with a single gunshot wound to the abdomen he later died of at Holy Cross Medical Center, according to authorities.

Around 5 a.m. on Saturday, Taos County Sheriff Jerry Hogrefe said deputies from his office responding to a call found Munoz and rendered him first aid until medics arrived to transport the 55-year-old to the local hospital.

Hogrefe said his office has developed a person of interest in the suspected homicide.

"During the investigation, a vehicle of interest was seized and a search warrant was executed on it," the sheriff said. "We have evidence and statements that lead us to believe this was not a random act but rather a dispute directed at Mr. Munoz."

Authorities had no other information to release about the investigation as of press time Wednesday (Oct. 23).
