Taos County Courthouse complex placed on 'precautionary lockdown'

Posted

The Taos County Courthouse Complex was placed on a brief precautionary lockdown at noon Wednesday (Nov. 13) after authorities received word that someone had threatened to carry out a shooting at the county buildings.

The person who made the threat has been involved in an ongoing case in the Taos County courts, according to Taos County Sheriff Jerry Hogrefe.

According to dispatch reports, deputies located and took the suspect into custody around 12:30 p.m., prompting Hogrefe to lift the lockdown.

Deputies reported over radio channels that they tasered the suspect while taking taking him into custody when he refused to cooperate. The suspect will be taken for a mental health evaluation.

Hogrefe, whose office provides security for the complex, said his policy dictates that any lockdown remain in place until contact is made with the person who has made a threat.
