Steady improvement at weekly cross-country meets - starting in 2016 - ultimately led to a state title for Katz in the fall. Great work ethics resulted in points needed in the distance running events for a team championship in track.
Katz’s crowning achievement came at the 2017 state cross-country meet where she ran away with the class 4A title with a time of 20:18.80. She lead the team to victory and the seventh championship for coach Bruce Gomez in Rio Rancho Nov. 4. She also was a force on the pitch as a mid-fielder for the Lady Tigers soccer squad under coach Casey Tonrey and a valuable distance runner for coach Benny Mitchell on the Lady Tigers track team, placing fifth in the 1,600 and sixth in the 3,200-meter runs May 11-12.
