During a Monday (July 30) special meeting, the town of Taos Council voted unanimously to accept a grant from the Federal Aviation Administration for the reconstruction of a Taos Regional Airport taxiway.
The $89,000 grant will be applied to the repaving of the taxiway to update the existing pavement. The town agreed to a 5 percent contribution, which will total $4,959 and will be matched by contributions from the New Mexico Department of Transportation.
According to the grant application, the taxiway is in need of repairs due to "deterioration and failure of the pavement."
The town of Taos celebrated nearly a year ago at the airport with the opening of a new 8,600-foot runway. The $24-million runway project was designed to accommodate safer landing and takeoff for smaller and larger aircraft and to also direct traffic away from Taos Pueblo airspace.
