This year marks Enchanted Florist’s 25th year in business in Taos. The local, independent and family-owned business is run by Marjorie and Robert Perry and their daughter Carly Reyes. Cory Graves and Polly Long are also long-time employees.
Beginning with a small space in Ranchos de Taos in 1993, Enchanted Florist is now located in an expansive 2,000-square-foot storefront in the Piñon Plaza with 420 Gear, Electric Sheep Computers, H&R Block and more.
For almost 20 years, Enchanted Florist was downtown across from Smith’s. As their business grew, it was time for a change. Their new location south of downtown is enthusiastically embraced by their customers.
“This location has been really good for business. It is more accessible for local people. Our customers have said they find it easier to park and get in and out quickly.” said Perry.
Bigger store, more offerings
Enchanted Florist is a full-service flower shop. The broad inventory of blooms includes more than 30 different varieties of flowers, most available year-round. Roses and lilies are customer favorites. The equally popular tulip season started in January, and these are on special through May.
Enchanted Florist is also a local favorite for buying houseplants, “People anxiously wait for our plant shipments, we can barely keep them in stock,” said Perry.
The store offers a wide range of gifts. These tokens of affection include balloons, fine chocolates, crystals, spiritual keepsakes, plush animals, garden accessories and home décor items.
They’re open Monday through Saturday with convenient online shopping on the website www.taosflorist.com. In the store and online, an impressive array of floral arrangements for all of life’s major occasions are displayed. Whether you need an anniversary gift or a sympathy bouquet, Enchanted Florist has you covered.
Reyes has been working in the store for most of her life. She learned the art of floral design from her mother and floral workshops. The store has an open-air feel where customers can watch the creative process happen. “We try to keep it open so people can see us design. And we get to be more one-on-one with customers,” said Reyes.
Valentine’s Day specials
Enchanted Florist buys its flowers from specialty providers all around the world, such as California, Holland and Colombia.
“Our roses are the Rolls-Royce of roses. The quality is superior to the ones purchased at the grocery store. Also, roses have changed over the years; they now last longer, are larger, open more beautifully and some varieties can last up to 10 days,” said Perry.
As a full-bucket shop, customers can walk in and pick their own single flowers. Any day of the week, wrapped bouquets and pre-made arrangements are ready to go, but especially during the Valentine’s Day season for delivery or carry out.
“With a lifetime of experience with big life events, the sentiment is there and the emotions are there. We take the time to work with our customers and make their events special,” said Perry.
The “one-on-one” touch with customers is a key part of Enchanted Florist’s success and that includes speedy service on last-minute occasions. Whether it is a forgotten boutonniere for prom or bouquet for a grieving family, you can be assured Enchanted Florist will be there to meet your needs.
Personal wedding service
Enchanted Florist also specializes in wedding floral design, working with local brides and “destination brides” who come to the Taos area to get married.
“Brides have a hard time knowing what to expect. To alleviate the already stressful process of planning a wedding, we offer them a free consultation where we break down the details step by step,” said Graves.
Potential brides are encouraged to visit www.taosflorist.com to see Enchanted Florist’s past and present wedding work and designs. Customers have also ranked the shop. One ecstatic bride named Emily said: “Cory and the entire Enchanted team created BEAUTIFUL flowers for my wedding. They went out of their way to accommodate every request I had (and believe me, I had a lot), and they were so patient and helpful through the entire planning process. I cannot recommend them enough.”
Some of their weddings take the florists to the most beautiful and scenic areas in Taos.
“In the past year we have done several weddings in Red River. One in particular I just finished setting up this beautiful, all-white spring wedding, when a herd of deer showed up expecting lunch. I had to patrol the area to make sure that it didn’t turn in to an ‘all-you-can-eat buffet. It was an interesting and terrifying experience,” said Reyes.
