The Taos High Swim Team competed in the Bill Hudson Memorial Invitational Saturday (Dec. 1) in Los Alamos.

Most swimmers on the team achieved personal best times as the team finished the first month of its season. The boys' team finished fourth overall out of 15 teams.

The boys 200-meter freestyle and 4x100-meter freestyle relay teams, composed of Hunter and Diego Griego, Lorenzo Cordova and freshman Estevan Salazar, finished fourth and sixth, respectively.

Salazar also finished fourth and sixth in his individual events, the 200 and 100 freestyle. Diego Griego finished seventh in the 200-meter individual medley (which includes all 4 swim strokes) and eighth in the 100 freestyle. Hunter Griego finished eighth in the 200-meter individual medley.

The girls team placed sixth out of the 14 teams competing. They were led by freshman Grace Goler's two state-qualifying swims in the 50 and the 100 freestyle in which she placed second and third.

Senior Ashley McMains also garnered valuable points for the girls with third place finishes in the 50 freestyle and the 100 backstroke. With the addition of 8th graders Aricela Chavez and Maye Montoya, the girls 4x50 and 4x100 freestyle relay teams swam the best times of the season, placing sixth in the 200 and third in the 400.
