Sports brief: Taos Ice Tiger Hockey

On Dec. 1-2, the Ice Tigers hockey team traveled to Durango and Telluride to play four games in the span of 26 hours.

The Ice Tigers defeated Telluride 6-3 in the Saturday morning game (Dec. 1). Though they battled their way back from a 6-2 deficit to tie it up at 6 in the third period, they ultimately lost the afternoon rematch 8-6.

Sunday (Dec. 2) morning, Taos defeated Durango 6-3. They summoned a late rally in the afternoon game to tie the game 3 all after being down 3-0.

Ice Tiger Leandro Richert had an impressive 12 goals on the weekend.

The Ice Tigers matchup against the Jackalopes in Odessa, Texas was rescheduled due to weather and will be held Feb. 9-10.

Their next home games are Saturday and Sunday (Dec. 15 - 16) at 5:15 p.m. and 8 a.m., respectively, against Coronado High School, who will visit from El Paso. They also have home games against their arch rival Los Alamos Friday (Dec. 21) at 5:15 p.m. and in Los Alamos Saturday (Dec. 22) at 9 a.m. The Ice Tigers currently hold The North Star Trophy, which is on the line during each game against Los Alamos.

The Ice Tiger season record is 3-2-1.
