The Taos Lady Tigers finished their season 2-21, 0-8 in the district, after a 55-43 loss at home to Los Alamos Feb. 20 and a 48-31 loss to Española Valley on the road Feb. 22. The Lady Tigers close the season playing better than when the season opened and with plenty to build on in the years to come.
The Taos Tigers wrapped up the regular season 17-8, 6-2 in the district going into the tournament after a tough 60-54 overtime loss at home to Española Valley, who is undefeated in the district, Feb. 23. It was their only home-court loss of the season. Maxpreps rankings currently have the Tigers ranked seventh among class 4A teams in the state, just behind the Sundevils.
The game was tight from start to finish. The Sundevils led at the end of the first quarter 15-13, and the Tigers reduced the point gap by one in the second period so the teams went into the locker room 30-29, Española.
The Sundevils took a 3-point edge in the third, extending their lead to four points at the buzzer, but Taos came back hard, outscoring them by 4 in the fourth. Time expired with a tied game, 52 all.
The Tigers weren’t able to make it happen in overtime. Outscored 8-2, the game went to the Sundevils, 60-54. In the absence of an upset during the district tournament, the two teams will face each other again in the district final this weekend, time and date to be announced.
