Taos YAFL registration

Registration for Taos Youth Football League will take place at the Taos Youth and Family Center, 407 Paseo del Cañon East, Taos, New Mexico this Saturday, June 2 from 9 a.m.- 12 noon.

Parents are asked to please bring their child's birth certificate and current physical. Registration fee $165 for tackle, $90 for flag.

Fly-fishing lessons

Sipapu Ski & Summer Resort and Solitary Angler are offering casting instruction classes every Saturday, May 26-Sept. 1 (except June 23) during the summer season.

Taught by certified fly-fishing instructors from Solitary Angler, these hands-on lessons cover the fundamentals, including how the fly rod, reel and line work together; the three elements to a good cast, how to cast overhand and backhand, even in the wind; and how to shoot line out and strip line in.

Lessons occur every Saturday, 10:30 a.m.-noon.

This is a free program. However, a New Mexico fishing license is required and may be purchased at Sipapu's general store. Interested anglers are asked to meet at the Sipapu Ski & Summer Resort behind Sipapu's lodge on the patio.

Students are encouraged to bring their own equipment although doing so is not required. Fly rods and reels will be available at the clinics at no charge.

Following the casting clinic, a more in-depth, half-day small stream fly-fishing class on the Río Pueblo will be offered for those who sign up for a fee.

'For the Health of It!'


"For the Health of It!" is once again ready to raise awareness and financial support for the Cancer Support Services program in Taos. This year's program, now in its eighth year, is going to be a 5K walk to raise money for this important fight against cancer in Taos and will be held at Kit Carson Park in Taos, New Mexico June 23.


Every dollar raised stays in the greater Taos area to provide nonmedical care for individuals and their families going through cancer treatment. Individuals and companies are encouraged to join to support a great cause.

Basketball camp

Taos High School announces its annual basketball camp for young players interested in improving their on-court skills to be held at Taos High School gymnasium June 5-7.

The three-day camp will have two age divisions with two separate times and entry fees for each age category. Ages 6-9 will run from 9-11:30 a.m. and costs $50. Ages 10-13 will run from 1-4 p.m. and costs $65. Proceeds will go to the Taos High School basketball program.

Volleyball camp

Taos High School will run a volleyball camp June 19-21 for players aged 6 to 14 at Taos High School gymnasium.

The camp starts at 8 a.m. each day and ends at noon. Cost is $60 and proceeds go to the Taos High School volleyball program.

Wildlife Center tour set

The statewide tour of the New Mexico Wildlife Center will make a stop at the Taos Youth & Family Center on June 1 from 1-2 p.m., featuring an educational program on snakes and raptors.

The tour is free for audiences of all ages. The New Mexico Wildlife Center works to conserve and restore native wildlife and their habitats through action-oriented education, promotion of public awareness, strategic partnerships and responsible wildlife rehabilitation.

Fly casting clinic

Free fly-casting clinics taught by certified fly fishing guides and instructors from the Solitary Angler are scheduled to take place throughout the summer months at Taos Ski Valley.

Reservations are required and participants interested in attending will need to bring their own gear or use Solitary Angler's rods and reels. The clinics will run from June 2 – Sept. 1 every Saturday from 10:30 a.m. - noon (except June 23). Participants are asked to meet in front of Tim’s Stray Dog Cantina.

Disc Golf Doubles

A weekly disc golf competition is occurring at Sipapu Disc Golf Course (located at Sipapu Ski and Summer Resort, 5224 State Road 518, Vadito, NM) every Thursday from 5-8 p.m. No registration required.
