Skiing to raise breast cancer awareness

On Saturday (Feb. 15), Taos Ski Valley will host Boarding for Breast Cancer (B4BC) and its event "Shred the Love" to help raise awareness for those affected by the disease.

Money raised from the event will go to B4BC and Anita Salas Memorial Fund, a nonprofit which helps those needing financial assistance.

The event will host K2 Bumps Challenge, a "marathon" down the slope Al's Run. Athletes who participate in the race will have to have raised more than $100 by the time of the event.

There will also be a silent auction for custom "one-of-a-kind artwork created on snowboards, skateboard decks, helmets and more."

Toward the end of the event, there will be food and music as well as a raffle.

Angel Fire Military Winterfest

Angel Fire Ski Resort and National Veterans Wellness and Healing Center are hosting their fifth annual Military Winterfest from Thursday-Monday (Feb. 6-10).

The proceeds will benefit the organization, which "provides treatment for military individuals and families that suffer with post-traumatic stress," according to a press release.

The event's description mentions skiing, snowshoeing, tubing and even an interservice slalom race among the activities happening throughout, and on Saturday (Feb. 8) there will be a dinner with guest speakers.

The dinner is $10 for each attendee, and the event itself is $30 for veterans and $50 for military families.
