Law enforcement arrested Gary Medina Jr. and Sonya Venegas near the Sun God Lodge motel late Friday morning (April 13), adding two more names to a growing list of fugitives captured in the town of Taos this week.

According to a press release from Taos County Sheriff Jerry Hogrefe, his office received information on Friday that Medina, 22, and Venegas, 31, had been staying at the motel. As deputies closed in on their location, Hogrefe said that both fugitives fled the area.

Deputies captured Medina as he fled east across Gusdorf Road and Taos Police Officers, who provided support at the scene, apprehended Venegas as she headed west toward Walmart, located across from the motel.

Medina was brought to the Taos County Adult Detention Center to face prior felony charges for theft. As a result of Friday's incident, he also picked up a new charge for resisting and evading arrest.

Venegas had been wanted for failing to appear for a Taos District Court hearing on a prior drug felony case. The press release did not specify whether Venegas picked up an additional charge for fleeing from deputies on Friday.

In addition to Friday's arrest, the sheriff's office has apprehended at least four other fugitives this week.

Eduardo Rivera, 29, was arrested on Wednesday (April 11) outside the south side Allsup's gas station in Taos. Qlarita Roybal, Roxanne Sanchez and Hilario Soria were arrested at a house on Kit Carson Road also on Wednesday.
