To all my friends, neighbors and constituents,
First and foremost let me remind you of the extraordinary work I've been able to accomplish over the course of the last 34 years. I was able to secure millions of dollars for our communities surrounding the counties of Taos, Los Alamos, Río Arriba and Santa Fe.
I was the primary sponsor of Capital Outlay legislation to our community. I carried the GO [General Obligation] bonds that provided funding for universities, colleges, libraries and senior facilities across the state.
I take a great deal of pride in sponsoring needed legislation for our acequias during the course of my tenure in office. I've been instrumental in carrying legislation necessary to advance and protect our acequias across the state.
I'm also proud of securing funding for our Taos County veterans. Today we have sufficient monies to complete the Taos County Veterans cemetery.
There are those who would advocate that seniority is not important to our district. I will remind you the Legislature is set up on the principle of seniority and a member is assigned to the best in committees both standing and interim.
Many of you may know I am currently the vice-chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, a powerful committee able to secure funding for our needed communities. We do not want to lose that.
I am the chairman of the Revenue Stabilization and Tax Policy Committee interested in ensuring stability in our revenues as well as developing tax initiatives across New Mexico. Let's not give that away.
Presently, I am the senior member of the Democrats in the New Mexico State Senate.
The New Mexico Legislature is a deliberative body. We may not agree on all issues and I am certain that you may disagree with some of my votes in the senate; however, I will tell you that I try to accommodate the desires and the demands and my constituents and that may be different than your own personal ideology but understand this - I listen and I act accordingly.
To that end understand there are some individuals outside of our district willing to throw away 34 years of seniority experience and dedication to the legislative process for the sake of one issue. Listen to their concerns but understand that I am there to represent you and your interest, whichever and whatever that may be. We may disagree but there is opportunity to shift, if necessary.
In the course of the next several months you will hear from individuals outside of our legislative area wanting to make change in the New Mexico State Senate right now. Understand that it is in your best interest to keep an experienced, dedicated loyal Democrat in the New Mexico State Senate.
To this end, I am announcing that I will seek a reelection to Senate District 6.
As your state senator, I ask for your support and pray that you will make the appropriate decision.
Seniority does count, experience does count, loyalty does count.
Thank you for your support. May God bless.
Carlos R. Cisneros, D-Questa, is state senator running for reelection.
