Taos wrestling competes in Rattler Invite
The Taos wrestling team competed in the Rattler Invite at Tucumcari High School and came away with a sixth-place team finish out of 13 total teams. The event took place on Saturday (Dec. 21).
Individually, Taos' only known place-maker was from Armando Valerio in the 152 pound division, as he finished in fourth place. He had four pins total throughout the tournament.
Mante Chacon made it to the quarterfinals of the 120 pound bracket, but lost by fall to Gavyn Fredrickson of Los Lunas.
Eliam Sanchez made it to the semifinals of the consolation bracket at 132 pound before losing by majority decision to Jose Seniceros of Valencia.
The Tigers next have a tournament at the start of the new year when they head to the Al Salazar Memorial Tournament hosted by St. Michael's in Santa Fe.
Taos girls basketball drops two games at tourney
Right after the Christmas break, the Lady Tigers got right back into the thick of action as they participated in the Lady Horsemen Invitational held at St. Michael's High School.
But it didn't go so well. The Lady Tigers dropped games to Sandia Prep and Los Alamos, both of whom finished in the top five of the tournament.
Both games took place on Friday (Dec. 27). At 11:30 a.m., Taos faced Sandia Prep and lost a close match, 43-39. And against the Lady Hilltoppers later in the day, the Tigers lost 34-25.
Taos had to forfeit Saturday morning's game against Ratón due to an overnight snowstorm causing the team to miss their consolation game.
The Lady Tigers now sit at 3-4 overall. Their next match will be against Bernalillo on Monday (Jan. 6). It will also be a road game for Taos, who will be making the three hour trek south.
