A single car rollover accident caused traffic to slow to a crawl in the "Taos box" Wednesday (Aug. 8).
According to the responding crew, a "one vehicle rollover due to a hit-and-run" caused minor injuries to the lone occupant who was transported the the emergency room at Holy Cross Hospital.
The small four-door sedan came to rest upside down in a ravine beside the Rio Grande and had to be flipped onto its wheels before it could be removed from behind a heavily damaged guardrail.
Despite sustaining damage that appeared to be a "total loss," the vehicle's windshield wipers continued to slap back and forth throughout the extracation process.
On site, were members of the Department of Transportation who assessed the damage to the guardrail and completed makeshift repairs in the evening twilight.
