Regional Basketball Update - Wednesday Edition


Below are the Taos County high school basketball scores for Dec. 4-6, 2017.

Questa Wildcats (0-4 overall)

No scores available during reporting period. The Questa boys basketball team has struggled in their first four games of the season – averaging just under 36 points-per-game as they navigate the pre-district segment of their 2017-18 campaign. Currently, the Wildcats are in the midst of the Annual Cowbell Invitational Tournament, however, results from their tourney opener were not available as of post time Dec. 6.


Questa Lady Cats (3-5 overall)

Questa 42, Springer Lady Red Devils 32

The Lady Cats picked up their third victory of the season with a first-round win in the Cowbell Invitational Tournament over the Springer Lady Red Devils (5-2 overall) Dec. 5. This is the second tournament in two weeks for the Lady Cats, and the second straight time Questa has made it into the championship bracket with a quarterfinal win.

Next, Questa will play in the semi-final game against the Clayton Lady Yellowjackets (1-2 overall) Dec. 8. Tentatively, the contest is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m. Depending on the outcome, the Lady Cats will play in the championship or the third-place game Dec. 9.


Peñasco Lady Panthers (5-1 overall)

No scores available during reporting period. The Lady Panthers have been idle since coming off a two-game win streak that garnered a consolation championship at the SFIS Lady Braves Invitational Basketball Tournament Nov. 30-Dec. 2.

Up next for Peñasco is a non-conference home game against the Coronado (Gallina) Lady Leopards (6-1) Dec. 9. The non-conference tilt will pit two one-loss teams against each other on the hardcourt floor of Jicarita Peñasco Gymnasium. Varsity will tip-off at 4 p.m.


Peñasco Panthers (1-4 overall)

No scores available during reporting period. The next contest on the schedule for the Panthers is a home game against the Coronado (Gallina) Leopards (3-3 overall) Dec 9. The non-conference game at Jicarita Peñasco Gymnasium is slated to tip-off at 5:30 p.m.


Taos Lady Tigers (1-4 overall)

No scores available during reporting period. The Lady Tigers will be in action again Dec. 7, when they welcome the East Mountain (Sandia Park) Lady Timberwolves (0-3) to Otero Gymnasium. This will be a varsity only game – as East Mountain does not yet have a junior varsity team in place – and will begin at 5:50 p.m. Later this week, the Lady Tigers will travel to Mora Dec. 9 to take on the Rangerettes in the matinee matchup beginning at 2:30 p.m.


Taos Tigers (2-3 overall)

Capital Jaguars 72, Taos Tigers 55.

The Taos Tigers are in the midst of a two-game losing streak. Taos lost to the visiting Moriarty Pintos (2-0) Dec. 2 and to the  Capital (Santa Fe) Jaguars (5-1) at home Dec. 5. This was the third of a three-game homestand that also saw the Tigers defeat the Santa Fe Indian School Braves 71-66 Nov. 28. The Tigers are on the road for their next tilt - traveling to Mora to take on the Rangers (2-1 overall) Dec. 9. Tip-off is slated for 4 p.m.
