The Hacienda de Los Martinez is hosting a special public event Saturday (Oct. 13) called Reconciling For Peace In The Valley Of The Río Pueblo De Taos.
This event will be a production of the customary Old Taos Trade Fair, but it will be in the form of a focused one-day gathering for traditional dancing (Pueblo, Genízaro, Old Spanish), harvest products, stories and accounts from the peoples and cultures who have made the Taos Valley their home beginning with Pueblo "since time immemorial." Next to arrive were the Spanish from 1598 and from 1692, followed by the U.S. Territorial Period marked by the mountain traders legacy. Other arrivals include Crypto-Jews fleeing persecution in Europe and the Taos artists who made the region their home. The event also celebrates the many faiths that now call the valley home. Children and youth are particularly invited to participate.
A noon-time potluck meal will be shared followed by statements from the various groups on the concept of Reconciling for Peace among the peoples who live in this special valley in the shadow of the Taos Pueblo Mountain.
The event will begin at 9 a.m. with an entrada, or procession, from the Río Pueblo to the hacienda. It will conclude at 4:30 p.m. with communal statements and prayers, and finally with a community blessing for truth, peace and reconciliation.
