Public meetings this week: Questa's top job, hospital oversight, town marketing

Tuesday (May 7):

Taos County Board of Commissioners meeting begins at 9 a.m., and some of the discussion looks like it will be centered around Holy Cross Hospital and its management.

The county will vote on an amendment to its contract with the hospital (the county owns the building, which is governed by a contract with the nonprofit that runs the hospital). Specifically, the amendment would allow money from a property tax that voters approved in 2016 to go toward operations and maintenance, as well as capital improvements. In exchange, the hospital is on the hook for providing even more documents to the county related to its budget.

A water leak at the hospital last week prompted officials to close one operating room pending repairs.

The commission will also discuss the 2020 Census and how to count as many people as possible.

Questa Village Council will convene at 6 p.m.  The only action listed on the agenda is a decision on the village administrator's position.  The administrator, Nicholas Maestas, was recently put on paid leave, and the mayor, Mark Gallegos, said he intends to ask the council to vote to terminate Maestas.

The Questa School Board will also meet, starting at 6 p.m. Toward the beginning of the meeting is an executive session about threatened or pending litigation, while the rest of the meeting includes approvals for new transportation and the school calendar, as well as planing for the elementary school in Costilla.

Wednesday (May 8):

The town of Taos will hold a marketing committee meeting,  begining at 9:30 a.m. That meeting will take place at the Town of Taos Conference Room 109, located at 400 Camino de la Placita.
