The Wild Rivers Plein Air Festival, which wrapped up July 21, sent almost 20 artists home with combined cash awards totaling more than $10,000. As many as 85 registered for the event.
Carolyn Lindsey won first place in the Wild Rivers Category for her painting "River Below," with Scott Geary placing second and Julie Draeger third. In the Landscape Category, Questa artist Peggy Trigg's painting "Sunset Over Wild Rivers" took first, while Lawrence Rudolech garnered second place and Lewis Williams took third. Stacy Erickson won first place in the Architecture Category with "Reclamation Fortress." Donna Barnhill placed second and Diane Buster took third.
The top award in the Experimental Category, an unusual category for plein air, went to Ken Requard for "Gorse on the Gorge," while Jean Kondek and Marion Jackson took second and third, respectively.
The Artistic Excellence Award went to Carolyn Lindsey for "Old House," and Mary Jo Kelly won the Emerging Local Artist title. Patty Voja won the Quick Draw competition. A People's Choice Award and an Artist Choice Award were also given.
Brad Holt and Leigh Gusterson combined their traditional and experimental expertise in the judging process. This is the fourth year for Wild Rivers Plein Air Festival.
