Business to watch in 2019: Friday Motors

Posted

Some of the staff at Friday Motors in Taos were all smiles in the showroom in 2016 and they have more to smile about now with snow on the ground and the economy doing better.

Friday Motors opened July 1, 1971. At one point, it was among three franchises in Taos along with Scheid Motors and Cottom Walker Ford.

Now Friday is the only new car franchise standing, though a few other places in town sell used cars, said Debbie Friday-Jagers

Many Taos businesses, not just hers, have struggled since the economic freefall of 2008. “I think Taos has been hit particularly hard in the last few years,” she said.

But “I’m hopeful. I’m an eternal optimist.”

She believes the relationships they’ve built over the decades coupled with a good winter so far, will make 2019 a good year.

Her harder task long-term is finding the qualified technicians for their service center. “We brought in a lot of new people in the last year. Vehicles are increasingly complicated and require special training to service,” she said. “There’s a shortage of skilled labor.”
