Pipeline update: testing for leaks

"Hydrostatic testing" will be conducted this week to confirm there are no leaks on the natural gas pipeline that has been installed so far, according to Tim Korte, spokesperson for New Mexico Gas Company.

Contractors laying 14 miles of new pipeline in the Río Grande Gorge are still working south of the Bureau of Land Management's visitor center, with the construction area reaching to mile marker 28 on State Road 68. Staging, welding and installation are also ongoing along the route. The pace of installation has increased as work moves south from Pilar due to the technical challenges on the north end of the project, Korte said.
