Peñasco Fall Sports Preview

The Peñasco Panthers are readying themselves for the volleyball and cross-country season.

Penasco Lady Panther Volleyball

Coaches: Maxine Abeyta, Dominic Garcia and Monique Visarraga

Seniors: Jennifer Aguilar, Carly Gonzales, Leandra Romero, Alexandria Sandoval, Ariana MacAuley, Adrianna Tafoya

According to head coach Maxine Abeyta, "This will be the core group for this year's team. All six are talented athletes that have a lot to offer on and off the court. Carly Gonzales is a multitalented athlete who will continue as a hitter and setter; Ariana MacAuley has shown tremendous growth and is showing her leadership skills; Adrianna Tafoya will show just how versatile she is by getting touches at the setter position, but continuing to use her power as a MH; Jennifer Aguilar has shown maturity, is using her strength and will be an asset on the court; Alexandria Sandoval is a bundle of dynamite who will be switching off as a defensive specialist and will ignite the offense; and Leandra Romero has come such a long way in a short time and will also take the reins as a defensive specialist and setter - her confidence is growing and it's showing day by day."

Juniors: Jolene Archuleta, Naomi Snake and Natasha Snake

Sophomores: Isabela Gonzales, Maricela MacAuley, Makayla Krucheous, Kaitlyn Romero, Carolina Tafoya, Martina Tafoya and Elisha Mustache

Freshmen: Sylvia Brown and Elviria Encinas

"The underclassmen will share time between varsity and junior varsity. Martina Tafoya and Maricela MacAuley are natural athletes who have a lot to offer. Martina will use her talent as a defensive setter while Maricela will be used as a hitter/blocker. Natasha Snake will be gaining experience in the setter position and Naomi Snake will be frontline hitter/blocker," coach Abeyta said. "I am looking forward to a great season with these girls. We do have to adjust our practice time because six of them do double duty by running cross-country, three of whom are varsity starters. Adrianna, Jennifer and Carly. But this group of seniors is a tight bunch. They work well together and overcome adversity as a team. I've seen these seniors grow up since elementary. (I was their teacher.) You could see that they had that something that will take them far in life."

Peñasco Panther Cross-Country
