The deadline to nominate your favorite mom as official 2020 “Mother of the Year” for New Mexico is 11:59 p.m. on Sunday (Sept. 15).
Nominations can be made at AmericanMothers.org.
American Mothers, Inc. has been honoring mothers from all 50 states since 1935 and naming the National Mother of the Year.
This year's honorees from all 50 states will be announced in January, They will travel to Washington, D.C. in April, where the 2020 National Mother of the Year will be announced.
Brook Bassan of Albuquerque was recognized as New Mexico’s 2019 Mother of the Year for her work as a community volunteer and advocate for safer streets.
According to the organization's website: "The ideals of American Mothers, Inc. began in the heart and mind of Anna Reeves Jarvis as she sought to heal the damage done to families caught in the conflict of the Civil War. By organizing a day of love and friendship across battle lines, this simple observance grew into the national holiday known as Mother’s Day for which American Mothers is the official sponsor."
Eleanor Roosevelt in 1931 formed a nation-wide program to boost the recognition of Mother's Day to " help dependent mothers and needy children."
