Upside down world - fake news, good is bad, bad is good - has arrived in Taos. I read with horror and outrage about the events that occurred on June 25. Three taxpaying, business-owning citizens of Taos were assaulted in daylight, in the downtown historic, tourist center of our town. I have worked in this district for 25 years, and can only think there, but for the Grace of God, go I, or you, or any of us. These taxpayers contribute to the salaries of our mayor, our police, our schools. These business owners hire us, and they serve us. These citizens ARE us, and we are them. Why were the police so slow in arriving at the scene or going after the aggressors? Has progress been made in detaining or questioning the perpetrators of this assault?

Should the mayor be pressuring law enforcement or other entities for a resolution? We wouldn't want visitors, or citizens, to fear our town causing them to stay away if word were to get out that Taos is an unsafe place. Those people in authority who we entrust to protect and serve us seem to have turned a blind eye to the victims of this terrible event. We should all only hope that this never happens again to any of us, citizen or visitor. I am left wondering who is being protected? Who is being served?
