No fear for Taos Sears despite national bankruptcy

Posted

Despite the Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing of Sears Holding Corp. on Monday (Oct. 15), Taos residents should rest easy knowing their Sears store is safe from the financial woes.

Sears Hometown Store in Taos will be unaffected by Sears Holding Corp.'s decision to close 142 "unprofitable" Kmart and Sears locations across the country as the two are operated by separate entities.

Sears Holding Corp. recently decided to close several stores and reorganize and focus on the more profitable and financially stable locations.

According to Sears Hometown Store officials, the two are separate companies and have been since 2012. Sears in Taos will continue with "business as usual" and will be unaffected by the downsizing of Sears Holding Corp.

Sears Hometown Store is located behind Allsup's convenience store on the south end of town and sells a variety of home and yard supplies as well as tools and appliances.
