Dem's pick for State Land Commissioner in Taos Monday

Taos Democratic Party is hosting a talk with Stephanie Garcia Richard, the party's candidate for State Land Commissioner, Monday (Aug. 6) from 5:30 to 7 p.m.  The talk will be at the Taos County Democratic Headquarters, 729-A Paseo del Pueblo Sur. 

Richards will be joined by two leaders from EmergeNM, a group dedicated to increasing "the number of Democratic women leaders from diverse backgrounds in public office through recruitment, training, and providing a powerful network." Richard is an alumna of the program, according to the local Democratic Party's Facebook page.

County Commission to talk  child separation policy Tuesday morning

A packed meeting of the Taos County Commission, including a discussion about a possible resolution about the federal government's child separation policy, is planned for Tuesday (Aug. 7) at the Taos County commission chamber in the county complex, 105 Albright Street, Taos.

The meeting begins at 9 a.m. All regular county meetings are archived on YouTube.

The commissioners will discuss the "possible resolution declaring the removal of children from their immigrant parents is a violation of human rights, constitutes cruel and usual punishment, and support the efforts of state and federal officials to promote reunification of children with their families." The commission will also set a time for the public to weigh in on revisions to the county's Land Use Regulations, as well as ambulance service in Questa. The public is invited to speak near the beginning of the meeting.

Questa School Board talks "personnel matters" in Tuesday meeting

The board of the Questa Independent School District plans to go into an executive session to talk about "personnel matters" during its regular meeting Tuesday (Aug. 7) at 7 p.m. Board meetings take place at the administrative offices, 2556A Wildcat Road, Questa.

The district has seen tremendous turnover ahead of the 2018-2019 school year. All told, 10 coaches have parted ways with Questa in the last two years. The board members will also discuss staff housing for the district's top administrators. The public is invited to speak near the beginning of the meeting.

Gorge Bridge suicide deterrents topic of Thursday meeting

An upcoming meeting with the state highway department and an engineering firm is meant to inform people of the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge Suicide Deterrent System Study. The meeting will be held Thursday (Aug. 16) from 5.30 to 7.30 p.m. at the Sage Brush Inn in Taos. The format will be an open house, so the public may come any time throughout the evening.
